Joining

There are many different methods for joining and each have their pros and cons depending on materials, manufacturing volume, cost, strength, the work environment and so forth. This should be taken into account during the design and engineering phase to allow the best solution to be integrated early for better joining results and higher cost effectiveness. Bonding and ultrasound welding as described below are two of the methods we use.

Bonding

Many assemblies must be joined by bonding. There are suitable adhesives for most materials, and progress in this field is advancing rapidly. AMB offers bonding, and together with our suppliers, advice concerning the appropriate choice of adhesive.

Ultrasonic welding

This method uses frictional heat generated when two parts vibrate against each other. The welding equipment transmits vibrations through the material, melting the surfaces intended for joining due to absorption of the vibration energy. It’s essential that the materials are compatible and rigid enough to join and that the moulded parts are appropriately designed to allow welding. AMB has several different ultrasonic welders and provides advice on how to achieve the best results.
